Rush

Drowning is supposed to be human’s biggest fear

yet we don’t fear the water itself

we fear the power it has over us

the idea of loosing control

of being consumed by something

that will continue to rush on despite our efforts

We fear being swept away

what might happen

when facades are washed away

disintegrating like sugar in hot tea

we fear the sticky mess left behind

But most of all we fear the person

that lies underneath

we fear the person

the water reveals
